This is a
blog about my life in Seattle for 2 month together with my lovely class!
Week one in
Seattle – 9/28/12 – 10/7/12 – and yes it is month/date/year
Now week
one is over and it has been a fantastic week, almost.
The first
thing is the weather, we have been so lucky – it is fantastic over here, it has
not been raining one day, like it does in Denmark all the time. The sun is
shining everyday on a cloudless sky and it is at least 20 degrees!
Last Friday
we landed about 11:15am and we were al excited to meet our new families. Unfortunately
it didn’t work out with mine, so after the weekend at Monday I had to move to a
new family.
So now I’m
living with 5 Filipino ladies and a girl from China. They are very kind and
have been so good to me - I like it here! Even though I’m living with 5
Filipinos and in a house with a little different culture, I still got the American
food at breakfast and lunch – thanks to my host mom Betty! But I only use a
fork and a spoon when I’m eating at home, no knife!
This week
we also started in school. We have 6 subjects – English, calculus, chemistry, history,
biology and physics. Fortunately the teachers back in Denmark have been
speaking English in their classes since summer, and then it is not so hard to understand
what the teachers are talking about – because these subjects are some of the
most difficult to learn in English!
Edmonds Community College where I will go to school for the next to
month – this is just a little part of the campus and as you can see is the
weather fantastic!
But now to
the fun part of this week!!
Shopping
and “hygge”
Victoria’s
Secret in Alderwood Mall together with Athis and Simone
A lot of us
ended up at Red Robin where we got a real American burger and refill soda
I specially
love the shop Abercrombie and Fitch – their clothes is just so comfortable and
looks good, specially to the men and of course I also ended up with a shirt
from there – not the last thing!
Line, Simone, Cecilia and I have also been in Target – a huge American Supermarket where you can get everything you want! I think that the part with the healthy food was like at least ten times smaller than the part with candy and unhealthy food – Crazy!
Seattle
Downtown
Saturday Elise,
Athis and I went to Seattle Downtown – long awaited! We had an amazing day and
we had a lot of fun as tourists!
We went on
this “land and boat tour” where we started in Seattle driving to different
places with high music and people were in such good mood, then we went in the
water, still the same bus, so funny! But the tour was fantastic, very beautiful
and I have never seen a such a crazy/childish person as our driver – he was so
funny and it made the tour something I never will forget!
After the tour we went to dinner at the Hard Rock Café and of course we
had to try their burgers! When we had finish our dinner we went home, but not
without trouble finding the bus, but we found it – “thanks” to 5 different
people that had given us 5 different places in Seattle, where we could take it –
we got safely home, with tired legs!
This picture
shows Seattle out from the water then we were on our tour
Seattle
Downtown with very high and big, but still beautiful buildings
Ride the
Ducks was the name at the tour Elise, Athis and I went on
We met this
guy when we walked around in
Seattle – he was very funny!
We ended up at the Hard Rock Café tired and very hungry!
Paragliding
Sunday was
the funniest and the most exciting day – I went paragliding together with Line,
Elise and Mia. It was really beautiful on the top of the mountain and the view
was fantastic! We had an instructor behind us, so we could just enjoy the
flight and the gorgeous view there was no matter where we looked. It was so
weird just hanging in the air, just flying like a bird – no words can actually describe
it, you have to try on your own!
The only negative part of it was the wind, because we could only be in
the air for like 5-7 minutes and that felt like 30 seconds. But it was still worth
the money and I would do it again, absolutely! After the paragliding we went to the center of Issaquah to the salmon days festival, where we got some lunch and looked around.
The gorgeous
view on the top of the mountain where we jumped/flight from
Mia was out
paragliding as the first of the 4 of us
How it is
to be from Denmark when you’re taking the bus in America
Every time
us Danish students take the bus, everybody wants to know where we are from
(they love small talking!) – but at first they always come with guess as France,
German and sometimes the Netherlands, not one has said Denmark!
When they
so hear we from Denmark they’re just like: Oh that’s amazing, fantastic and so
on, but some of them still don’t know that Denmark is a country in Europe.
Often they also can ask us which language we speak and when we said Danish
they are just like: so which country do you then come from? – Really funny!
What a GREAT post!! Your English is FABULOUS! :-) Keep it up!
SvarSletAnd I cannot believe y'all went paragliding! SOOOO COOL!!!
And I love how you have TWO GIANT burgers in one blog post!
